Self Surprises
I think the biggest surprise I gave myself this year was being able to teach all of my students virtually during a global pandemic. Being able to still connect and build relationships with my students in a virtual setting also came as a surprise.
Professional Goal Outside of Induction
I would love to continue to learning and grow in my knowledge of developing the best IEPs for each of my students. IEPs are not something that get much attention or training so I plan to take it upon myself to learn where I can.
Sustaining the Teaching Energy
I think that this comes from having a really set balance of work and home life. As a teacher, there is always a mountain of things to do when our contract day is done, but knowing when to stop for the day, when to rest and when to push a little longer is key.
Advice for New Teachers
Do not be afraid to ask for help. When you find the people that can be your safety net on campus, do not be afraid to seek them out for help, a hug or a good venting session. Don't be too hard on yourself, do the best that you can with what you know and then be better once you know better.
